Study the Beautiful Spanish Language in Nicaragua
Every school in Nicaragua where Spanish is taught has slightly different rules, setups, accommodations, activities, and programs, which is why it is so important to do research so you choose the right school for you. Regardless, we wanted to provide you with information as to what a traditional school in Nicaragua would have to offer, showing you the value you get by traveling to this country to learn the beautiful Spanish language.
- Year-round Services and Programs – It is common to find schools in Nicaragua that operate all year round. Typically, you would arrive sometime during the week or on the weekend and get started in a classroom setting on Monday morning and attending daily with classes going through Friday. If wanted, many schools will also offer extra tutoring where you can get in more learning time before or after standard school hours or on the weekend. Of course, this usually involves an additional fee but it is very reasonable.
- Total Immersion – Another popular and common program found with Nicaraguan schools where Spanish is taught is the total immersion, which means you would gain control of this language much easier and quicker by living with a host family where Spanish is the only language spoken. Typically, these host families live in areas near the school but also parts of the city where Spanish is the primary language. This forces you to learn at a more aggressive pace than just taking the studies in the classroom. These families are accustomed to having strangers stay so they are very friendly, hospitable, and eager to assist in any way possible.
- Placement Evaluation – Another option that most of the schools in Nicaragua offer is a special program that ensures you are placed in the right class for your level of speaking. In other words, if you have never spoken Spanish before, they will place you and other beginners in the same class whereas if you know Spanish but want to advance your skills, you would go into a more advanced class. On the first day of school, you would be given both a written and oral evaluation, which helps the teachers and school officials to make the appropriate placement.
- All Spanish Learning – Most of the more reputable schools in Nicaragua where Spanish is taught conduct classes where there are two to four hours every day when only Spanish is spoken. This is usually for the intermediate and advanced students but the outcome is remarkable. Students find they gain a more in-depth understanding of the language than with a classroom of English and Spanish. This is something that even the best audio spanish lessons like Rocket Spanish don't offer.
- Class Size – Of all considerations, this is one of the more important ones. If you choose a school that has too many students, you are wasting your money. Instead, look for a school that has only two to four students per class. Now, you can find private tutoring but expect to pay more. However, with a small class size, you will have an easy time picking up on the Spanish language.
- Native Teachers – Finally, always do research as to the person doing the teaching. The goal is to find a school that hires only Nicaraguan natives who speak Spanish as their main language. These teachers are more influential, use more successful teaching methods, and have both love and devotion to helping every student get the most out of the class.
